Elie Danziger
I came to anthropology with the conviction that the tools and concepts of the discipline are key to approaching policy-making beyond academia.
My interests range across all aspects of social life. My master’s degree focused on medical anthropology, and my PhD on the anthropology of science and ecology. My master’s project addressed the therapeutic use of humanoid robots with children on the autism spectrum, and my PhD examined the production of ecological knowledge on ecosystems in highly controlled experimental facilities (Ecotron labs in Europe, Biosphere 2 in the USA).
Alongside academia, I worked for seven months at Stripe Partners, a London-based agency using anthropological methods to understand the needs of users and patients in the technology and healthcare sectors.
I am now particularly interested in applying ethnographic toolkits within organisations working on sustainability policies.

Reflection on the Mentorship Program
The AAN mentorship programme, and my mentorship with Sophie Matthison, were extremely helpful in navigating the range of organisations and professional activities for applied anthropologists in the UK and beyond. It was a valuable opportunity to pause and reflect on the kinds of anthropological work I would like to pursue outside academia.
